SRU EDU Members release sea turtles into the sea

On 18th May, 2022, Assistant Professor Dr. Jirasak Saekhow, the Dean of Faculty of Education, Suratthani Rajabhat University, with faculty members, visited the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center Phang-Nga, Navy Division 3, and had an opportunity to meet Lieutenant Commander Yutthana Bubpha, the Commander of Security and Counter Intelligence Division, Phang-Nga Navy Base, Security Regiment, Royal Thai Marine Corps, on behalf of Phang-Nga Navy Base Commander, Navy Division 3.

Like other sea turtles, green turtles are classified as endangered. Each year, green turtles are declining in numbers or get injured caused by human activities like plastic waste as well as fishing activity. Now the government sectors including private sectors work with local communities to raise awareness to protect and promote the value of turtles. Sea turtle conservation covers two areas: Koh Hu Yong or Koh Nueng in the Similan National Park, and the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center Phang-Nga. This has led to the significant number of sea turtles to lay more eggs and increased a chance of survival of this wildlife animal.

On this special occasion, faculty members were given a lecture on sea turtle conservation.  Eventually, Dr. Jirasak, on behalf of Suratthani Rajabhat University, donated to support the center. and released nine green turtles, aged nine months, into the sea.
